Does a bear ____ in the woods?

Posted on January 9, 2022January 9, 2022 By David In Great Falls

The Charmin bear commercials have been around for a loooong time…and I’ve never liked them.

I’m sure there was lots of money spent on market research revolving around the old “does a bear s**t in the woods” phrase which ultimately resulted in Charmin execs deciding that a family of bears using toilet paper would be a great way to market their products.

I am skeptical…but don’t have insight into how their market share has increased or decreased with the bear marketing. The ads are still ubiquitous, so I guess Charmin is happy.

BUT! (no pun intended)

I do get a kick out of the details in one of the commercials – the child bear is eating “Salmon Flakes!”

And the newspaper headline reads: “The Honey-Kings beat Salmons 57-15 in final.”

A smaller headline is partially obscured, but says something about “Bear essentials this…” Maybe “season?”

FUN FACT: did you know that the BLUE bears are the “Charmin Ultra Soft Family” and the RED bears are the “Charmin Ultra Strong Family?”

For an darker take on the Charmin bears, check this out: The Charmin Bears Commercials portray a terrifying dystopia.
