Best wishes to all on this Labor Day! Sunny, windy, a bit hazy, but not scorching hot – whew! Great Falls even dropped into the “unhealthy” category of air quality this morning:
The Photo Of The Day (top) is the roundabout at the intersection of Division Road and Smelter Avenue. As it was being built and for quite a while after it was in use, there were some people who were convinced it was a death-trap, and there would be so many crashes.
Well…I drive through it almost daily, and I have seen one (minor) crash. I know there have been a few others, but overall – it seems to be working great.
And I’ve seen similar reactions to other Montana communities that have installed roundabouts, including Helena and Billings. Some people whip themselves into a state of near-panic over the impending doom, but I’ve never seen evidence of any increase in crashes.
Which reminds me – anyone who grew up on, or lived on, or has worked on an Air Force base (like me!) has undoubtedly driven through many, many roundabouts 🙂
