A few years ago, we were invited by some wonderful people to visit their bison out in Vaughn. It was magical – bison are simply majestic creatures!

Mmmm…yummy!

We were able to feed and pet some of the younger bison.

They really enjoyed bread from JJ’s Bakery!

Then the owners took us for a drive “out back” so we could meet the grown-up bison.

Hello, Mr. Bison!

We were safe inside a Suburban, as a couple of the big ones were a bit rowdy.

NOM NOM NOM

I don’t know why bison fascinate me – largest animal in North America, their iconic horns, their shaggy coats, their strength, their resilience no matter the weather, their massive shoulder hump, their beautiful coloring – simply majestic!

And also our national mammal: “The American bison was named the national mammal of the United States on May 9, 2016. This majestic animal joins the ranks of the Bald Eagle as the official symbol of our country.”

And remember – they are BISON – not buffalo!
