We finally took a test-drive of the Portage Supper Club – it’s the restaurant in the building that formerly was Eddie’s Supper Club. The Portage opened in March 2020.
We set off on Friday evening not entirely sure what we wanted to have for dinner, so we drove from one end of town to the other – from Cattlemens’ Cut and Chili’s to Montana Club and Jaker’s and more, and were somewhat daunted by the number of cars in the parking lots – all of them were packed.
And then we realized that we had not yet tried the Portage, so we headed over – and were puzzled that there were only two cars in the parking lot. Hmmm…
On the inside, it is bright and very clean – money well-spent on the overall decor! Definitely gives off a sports-bar vibe, with lots of TV displays (most with sports).
Appetizer was standard-issue mozzarella cheese sticks, which were fine.
My wife had a shrimp bowl, which she deemed adequate.
Dinner for me was what they billed as a ribeye steak, a baked potato, and rice. Um…but the “ribeye” was the saddest, most un-tasty steak I have ever tried. And the baked potato was oddly flavorless. Didn’t even bother trying the rice.
After three bites of the “steak,” I gave up. Didn’t even take the rest home for my pupper.
I posted pictures of the steak on Facebook, and most of the comments echoed my sentiments.
Seems like a very nice sports bar – wouldn’t be surprised to see it full of people during a big game!
If you’ve eaten there, drop a comment below to let folks know what you think.
BTW – Eddie’s Supper Club closed in June 2017 when the owners decided to retire after decades in the building. Here is my mini-tribute to a magical place:
