Took my car to Carnahan’s for an oil change and a tail-light, and although I’ve been in there many times, somehow the huge map on the wall never caught my eye – until yesterday.
Maps are cool – they have always fascinated me. I love zooming around on Google Maps – places I have lived, places that interest me, places I see referenced on TV or online.
Notice that in the Carnahan’s map – what is now Jaycee Park (in the Riverview neighborhood) was once known as Gallatin Park.
Any of you know when the name change happened?
Jaycee pool was built in the 60’s in Gallatin Park — City of Great Falls has the park named as Jaycee Gallatin Park since then (Jaycee Gallatin Park Located next to Jaycee Swimming Pool)

… as an aside, the only ones that call it Jaycee Park is Google
The rest of us, including City of Great Falls, call it Jaycee Gallatin Park
Interesting! Thanks Alan. FWIW – my wife (born and raised a few blocks away from it) has never once heard it called Gallatin or Jaycee Gallatin – it has always been simply “Jaycee Park.”
Since the name came about in the 60’s I can see why.
I came to Great Falls in ’89 from Missoula and still refer to things like Deaconess and Columbus.
Harold Poulsen (owner of Poulsens Building Supply 826 Northwest Byp) passed away in 2016 and we still refer to Builders First Source as Poulsens … it’s like with the park … There are many here that still make reference to the Jaycee pool being at Gallatin Park. (kids back in the day knew the name of the pool better than they knew the name of the park … for some fairly obvious reasons of course 🙂 )
The old 10th street bridge (Arlyne Reichert Community Heritage Bridge) is the same way. It aligned with 10th street so that’s what it was called … even though these days many refer to it as the *old 9th street bridge.
The new bridge, Eagle Falls Memorial Bridge, is actually the 9th street bridge because it aligns with 9th street.
