Some of you know that I don’t drink alcohol, outside of about (IIRC) three exceptions over the last 35+ years.
I drank half of a beer in March 1997 to prove to my mother that I could, in fact, do it – she thought that I was so “anti-alcohol” that I wouldn’t even drink it to prove her wrong. I also drank half a can of beer in September 2000 to see if it might reduce some grad-school-induced stress (it did not). And when I got married in March 2013, I drank a wee bit of champagne – I mean, it was my wedding!
So why did I actually go online and buy some gin a few weeks ago? Because of their amazing commercials/videos.
Seriously. I love that commercial so much that I went to the Hendricks website and ordered a bottle of gin – not knowing if I would actually even try it.
It might sound odd, but I literally just wanted to support a company that made such a whimsical, beautiful, retro-tastic commercial. And I dove a bit deeper, checking out a bunch of their other ads and videos – good, good stuff.
I also did a brief Messenger chat with a rep – basically just to say that I love their creative team (and I caught a typo on their website 😀 “lumber” versus “lumbar”, which they corrected within a few hours) – and was pleasantly received.
About 10 days ago, I decided to give it a shot (pun) – partially out of curiosity, and partly in an attempt to de-stress and relax while my beloved pup spent two nights at Best Friends Animal Hospital – he had pancreatitis 🙁 – but he is home now and doing great, thank goodness.
So on his second night at the hospital, I popped open the gin, and added some to my delicious grapefruit mixer. And…I kind of liked it. The “booze” taste was very (I don’t know how to describe flavors) “low” and did not overwhelm the grapefruit mixer.
Another data point: one of our dearest friends came to visit from Bozeman a few days ago, and I told her about “Hendricks Gin & Q Grapefruit Mixer” – so she tried it, too, and her eyes flew open and she loved it! Guess what we sent her for Christmas 🙂 ?
So am I a “drinker” now?
I’m hoping that gin helps my lung capacity and “lumber” region! 😀 You’re the best, David Sherman!
