On Patrol: Live

Do you watch “On Patrol: Live” on REELZ every Friday and Saturday? It is literally one of the few “must see TV” shows in our house. It is absolutely fascinating to see how officers handle the routine, the bizarre, and the scary things they encounter literally every day. And it’s educational, too – learn a lot watching the interactions between officers and the public, and also having Sticks and Curtis chime in.

It is also eye-opening in a less positive way – I never knew just how many people drive without a license/insurance, with drugs, with illegal guns, etc.

If you’re a regular, you might enjoy checking out the OPL community on Reddit – the moderators do a great job of keeping trolls/spam out of there, and the vast majority of the comments are positive and supporting.

BUT some people complain about the commercials. Some people complain that there are too many. Some people complain about the content. But come on – without the commercials, we WOULD NOT HAVE the show. Advertisers are literally paying $$$ to Dan, Sticks, Curtis, and all of the amazing camera/tech people so that we can get our weekly fix!

As for the frequency of the commercials, it seems pretty consistent week to week. Here is last night’s breakdown (based on Mountain Time Zone)
# – TIME

1 – 7:19

2 – 7:36

3 – 7:51

4 – 8:12

5 – 8:32

6 – 8:46

7 – 9:08

8 – 9:21

9 – 9:33

10 – 9:43

11 – 9:51

Yes, as some have noted, they really pack ’em in during the last 45 minutes. BUT – how many TV shows can you name that you can watch for the first 35 minutes with only ONE commercial break? Not bad, IMO.

As for the content/quality of the commercials. First of all – who cares? 😀 If you DVR the show, you just roll right over ’em. If you watch live, take those few minutes to refresh your drink, get some more snacks, hit the can, talk to your spouse, or check your phone. No biggie! Second – yes, they are repetitive, and yes, some are silly (Starface!), but again – who cares?

There are no Montana agencies featured this season on the show – closest we get is Nye County in Nevada 🙂 which is my favorite department this season.

BUT in the show’s previous incarnation – “Live PD” on A&E several years ago – Montana was represented during one season by the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office!

Naturally, one episode featured a bear in a tree:

And of course a bear was featured in another episode from Missoula County:

And a few more Missoula County shots:
