We tried Mod Pizza shortly after it opened in 2019, and it was…pretty good. The concept is kind of like a salad bar: you go to the line, and tell the crew exactly what you want on your pizza, choosing from all of the ingredients that are spread out in front of you – and they put it on your pizza, right in front of you, and then pop it in the oven.
The pizza itself was good. Not great, but certainly good. Better than, for example, Domino’s, Pizza Hut, or Little Caesar’s, but not up to par with Howard’s, Stageline, or Fire Artisan. Very thin crust, which I really like.
BUT! In this age of DoorDash, we’ve discovered that you can do the exact same thing with their salads – order it online with exactly the toppings you want. That’s in contrast to most other restaurants, which offer only a few specific types of salad, and customizing a salad usually isn’t a reliable option.
And my favorite thing: the cheesy garlic bread is the closest thing I’ve found to the “cheesy flatbread” that I loved at Rikki’s (RIP)!
Mod Pizza is at 1125 10th Avenue South in the building that was Hoagieville from 2014 to 2016 (RIP); before that, it was a KFC for many years.
