Let’s talk about the TV series “All Creatures Great And Small” – the new version.
From the PBS website: “James Herriot’s adventures as a veterinarian in 1930s Yorkshire get a glorious new adaptation in All Creatures Great and Small, a seven-part series based on his beloved books.”
So many things to love about the show – including, as noted in this article, that there are no villains.
– We absolutely LOVE the illustrations/animation in the intro – so cute!
– I tried to figure in my head the age difference between Siegfried and Tristan – older brother and younger, with Siegfried having partially raised Tristan. I pegged it at about 34 years old for Sieg and 25 for Tris. Boy, was I surprised to find out that the actor portraying Siegfried is actually 54 years old – 28 years older than the actor playing Tris!
– The animals! Wonderful acting all around by the cows, the horses, the dogs, and more 🙂
– All of the characters are charming and intriguing, and all have interesting “back stories.” And as noted, none of them are “bad.” The man that James envies isn’t portrayed as a villain or in any nefarious way – he’s just a guy in love with a gal and doesn’t want to hurt anybody.
It was delightful to see Diana Rigg show up in two episodes with her adorbs dog Tricki Woo. An amazing career, capped in recent years with roles in “Game Of Thrones” and now this. May she rest in peace.
Of note: even though I actually lived in England when the first iteration of the series was broadcast, I never watched it – I was just a kid, and that was a show for “old people.” I was far more interested in Top Of The Pops, The Tomorrow People, and The Saturday Banana.
