A woman has been charged after she led a Sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase – and then drove through the main gate at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

I’ve seen some people wondering how she was able to do that, and why she (essentially) wasn’t shot or stopped by the pop-up barriers

“Viola Lillian Foster is facing several charges after she allegedly led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase and nearly ran over several airmen at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

My guess: first, it happened at about 3:30 a.m. – there likely was no other traffic approaching the Malmstrom gate at that time.

Second, the deputy (or dispatchers) had already notified Malmstrom that she was approaching.

Third, they had already identified the vehicle and the owner (license plate), and knew she wasn’t a terrorist trying to steal nuclear material or destroy our missile capability.

So the Malmstrom Security Forces did what they could to stop her and assist the Sheriff’s deputy, and did not need to use deadly force.
