I understand that the word “convenience” – and even more, the word “inconvenience” – is often spelled incorrectly.
I’ve seen too-many-to-count handwritten signs at stores and drive-throughs that apologize for the “inconvience” or “inconvenence” and such.
But this one really got me. A friend sent it to me and wanted confirmation that it wasn’t simply spelled wrong – it is literally a different word!
From Cambridge Dictionary: “the act of conniving, especially by knowing that something bad is happening and allowing it to continue.”
And from Wikipedia (citing Collins Dictionary): “Connivance is the act of conniving or conspiring, especially with the knowledge of and active or passive consent to wrongdoing or a twist in truth, to make something appear as something that it is not.”
