No luck finding the new Nitro Pepsi here in Great Falls, so I ordered some a few days ago.
The cans look pretty spiffy and fun!
In theory, the “nitro” cartridge inside each can is (I think) supposed to make the cola more fizzy and bubbly – when you pop the top, you can definitely hear something happening inside the can!
According to a Buzzfeed review:
“Regular” sodas and carbonated drinks are infused with carbon dioxide, which is suuuuper soluble in water — thus, it takes a while for the gas to escape, and the drink will stay carbonated for a while when opened. Nitrogen, however, is far less soluble in water — so when you open a nitrogen-infused beverage, the bubbles are basically like, “Let’s GTFO.” You’re left with a smooth, cream-like top that’s full of really tiny bubbles and a less fizzy beverage overall.
And then I followed the directions – “pour hard!” – which means, based on some videos I’ve watched, that you are supposed to pour it “hard” into a glass – basically vertically, not at an angle.
Result: yep, it fizzed right up, just like a beer – and the first sip, with the extra bubbles, was a bit more fizzy than regular Pepsi. But sadly, that fizziness faded FAST – like, less than a minute.
What was left was decent-enough tasting Pepsi that was basically “flatter” than a cola that had been left sitting in a glass for a couple of hours.
Well, it was definitely worth a shot – fun to try, but simply not better than regular Pepsi.
